7.5 million guests are expected to visit the coming world exhibition, which takes place from June 14th to September 14th 2008 in the Spanish city of Zaragoza. The theme is water and sustainable development.

Denmark participates with its own pavilion where the aim is to emphasise and communicate the Danish competences within environmental technologies and sustainable development. The theme of the Danish pavilion is Circulos de Aqua or circles in the water.

The pavilion comprises five large circles or cylinders hanging from the ceiling. Inside the cylinders one can sense the forces of nature and not least the beauty of nature. The outside of the cylinders provide the Danish values and approach to technology. The approach which ensures sustainable development based on the resources presented by the cylinders.

DHI is one of the main partners in the Danish EXPO project and have contributed with the ideas for the water cylinder - Safe by the Sea. This is the story on how technology and expert know-how can be used to alleviate the effects of climate change, which makes it possible to adapt to the climate changes.

From the outset the exposition has aimed to be more than just an attractive urban development project; it is a driving force for necessary urban, social and cultural change. International expositions have been and are valuable tools for progress in all areas with global sustainability problems: the environment, energy, healthcare and education, etc.

World Exhibitions have a 150-year history and have throughout the years always been a global non-commercial exhibition. They form a home of cross cultural dialogues, international meetings and serious exchanges of global dilemma solutions. In fact, Expo is considered the Olympics of economy, technology and research, with an ocean of national attractions in the pavilions.
