Project: Sydney's Desalination Blueprint - Independent Expert Review
Client: Sydney Water Corporation
Period: 2006
Project Description:
Based on its worldwide competencies within assessment of environmental impacts for power and desalination plants, DHI has been selected by Sydney Water to act as Independent Expert in the review of a seawater intake and discharge design and monitoring programme. This work is part of the NSW Government and Sydney Water preparation of a 'blueprint' design for a reverse osmosis desalination plant of up to 500 mega-litres per day located in Sydney's South. This plant would only be constructed in the event of a return to a sustained and severe drought. The blueprint design is being prepared so that, in the unlikely event that it is required, the procurement of a desalination plant could proceed quickly. The 300 mill. USD plant seawater intake and submerged discharge of seawater concentrate would be located in the Tasman Sea. The review involves assessment of the outfall and intake design, oceanographic monitoring programme, numerical modelling and laboratory experiments.
